Client Feedback

In Their Own Words

ZH

Zulkifli Harun

Petaling Jaya, Selangor

"I had been putting off looking at my EPF situation for years — partly because I did not know where to start and partly because I worried about what I might find. The Walkthrough session was exactly what I needed. The solicitor went through everything clearly and at no point did I feel rushed or judged. The written summary helped me explain the situation to my wife as well."

"My father's civil service pension had a discrepancy going back several years. Sentosa Law reviewed the records, identified where the calculation had gone wrong, and drafted a clear letter to the relevant authority. The matter was resolved without needing to go to court, which was a relief for my father. The fee was fair for the amount of work involved."

"We enrolled in the Family Stewardship Programme to sort out my mother-in-law's pension nominations alongside my husband's retirement plans. Having one solicitor who understands the whole picture has made things much less fragmented. We have had two review sessions since joining and both were well-prepared. The standing access to counsel has also been reassuring."

"I was referred to Sentosa Law after my EPF withdrawal was processed incorrectly when I retired. The process was handled with minimal fuss — they reviewed the paperwork, wrote to EPF on my behalf, and kept me informed throughout. It took about two months to resolve but the outcome was what I had hoped for. Appreciate that they kept things measured."

"The Walkthrough was thorough and the written summary was genuinely useful. I had not realised that my beneficiary nomination was outdated after my divorce — that alone was worth the session. Only reason for four stars is that appointment availability was a little limited, but we managed to schedule within about a week."

"I came in on behalf of my elderly mother who had been receiving inconsistent pension payments for over a year. The team at Sentosa Law treated her — and me — with a lot of patience. They explained each step clearly, which mattered a great deal as she finds legal language confusing. The matter was eventually resolved through correspondence, no court needed."

A Few Client Journeys

Underpaid EPF Withdrawal at Retirement

Kuala Lumpur · Dispute Advisory · Resolved in 10 weeks

Challenge

A client who had retired after 31 years of employment found that her EPF lump-sum withdrawal was approximately RM 8,000 below what her own calculations suggested it should be. She had raised the matter with her former employer and EPF separately but received conflicting information and no resolution.

What We Did

Sentosa Law conducted a full review of her contributions history against employment payroll records. The review identified a 22-month period where employer contributions had been underdeclared. Formal correspondence was directed to both EPF and the former employer's current management, setting out the discrepancy with supporting documentation.

Outcome

EPF agreed to recalculate and a revised payment was issued within six weeks of the correspondence. The client received the shortfall in full. No court proceedings were required. She subsequently referred her sister for a Walkthrough session.

"I had nearly given up. Knowing someone was looking at the records properly made a real difference to how I felt about the whole thing."

Multi-Generational Family Pension Coordination

Kuala Lumpur & Klang Valley · Family Stewardship Programme · Ongoing

Challenge

An adult son sought advice for a family situation involving his retired mother (civil service pension), his approaching-retirement father (EPF and employer scheme), and his own mid-career EPF planning. Three separate matters, managed separately, had produced conflicting nomination documents and gaps in the estate coordination.

What We Did

The family enrolled in the Stewardship Programme. Sentosa Law conducted a joint family review session, produced a summary of each member's pension position, identified nomination inconsistencies, and drafted revised documents. We also coordinated with the family's financial planner on integration with their broader estate arrangements.

Outcome

Nomination documents updated and consistent across family members. The father's employer scheme discrepancy was identified and is being pursued. Two scheduled review sessions have since taken place. The son noted that having a single contact who knows the full picture has significantly reduced the administrative burden on the family.

"Before this, we each had our own bits of paper and nobody had the full picture. Now it feels like someone actually knows our situation."
